Biological activity

It belongs to next groups of Bioreference compounds:
Therapeutic areas:

Anticonvulsants

Target:

G-Protein-Coupled Receptors (GPCRs)    Glutamate receptor    GABA receptors    Enzymes    Carbonic Anhydrase    Ion Channels    Aquaporins    Sodium channel    Ligand-gated ion channels    Transporters    Aquaporins    Ion Pumps

Description:

Topiramate is an anticonvulsant indicated in the treatment of epilepsy and migraine. Topiramate enhances GABA-activated chloride channels. In addition, topiramate inhibits excitatory neurotransmission, through actions on kainate and AMPA receptors. There is evidence that topiramate has a specific effect on GluR5 kainate receptors.

Targets:Gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor subunit alpha-1, Sodium channel protein type 1 subunit alpha, Glutamate receptor ionotropic, kainate 1, Carbonic anhydrase 2, Carbonic anhydrase 4, GABA-A receptor (anion channel)
